Improve your Health By Learning to be a Food Snob

Most of us have friends who may embarrass us in restaurants being fussy when ordering an easy entre. Seeking this and that quietly, having a coffee at 300 degrees with no warmer and seeking the world, all for $2. 50. However, people who make choices that do not comply with society may produce better results. Two thirds of Americans and one third of Canadians are obese or overweight ultimately causing heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and cancer. Note to self – don’t go with the flow! There’s good quality that arrives of becoming a food snob for the “right” reasons, namely your health. You can find added benefits to eating in this way such as increased joy with the connection with taste, the ritual of eating for pleasure and knowing that you’re treating the body just like a temple, not a woodshed. Food snob suggestions within my book are the following: Eat local and fresh (less travel time and sitting makes fruits and vegetables retain their mineral and vitamin content better and they taste better) Choose to eat half of your daily food intake in the form of fruit and veggies. (Think how you feel after eating a hamburger with fries, in comparison with whenever you eat fresh grilled chicken white meat with brown rice and sauteed vegetables, with a mixed greens salad topped with blueberries and balsamic and coconut oil dressing). Decide between heartburn or an experience for the tastebuds. Eat no pre-packaged foods which are processed. (Think cookies, chips, packaged frozen dinners and pre-made pastas high in hydrogenated fat, salt and butter) Make your own personal desserts with fresh and healthy choices. Choose lean meats, whole grains fresh produce. Buy organic wherever possible. (Pesticides are not excreted from the body and create a toxic burden) Purchase the most useful and eat a little less. Eat quality and not quantity (Think about the price of cheap Easter chocolate, and compare a 70% chocolates bar full of anti-oxidants. Think about a loaf of cheap white bread and compare it to a wholegrain loaf that’s topped with nuts and seeds. Picture the latter being dunked in coconut oil and balsamic vinegar whilst enjoying a glass of burgandy or merlot wine and a cheese plate.) Treat yourself and enjoy an organic cup of coffee or two each day. Drink filtered or reverse osmosis water filtration and avoid any pre-made sugar laden coffee drinks, pop and powdered drink formulas. Stay away from artificial sweeteners. Make all your meals a particular event. Take time to prepare a healthy meal by choosing low to medium glycemic foods (see list in my new book click here) Eat like they do in the Mediterrean; fresh fish, olives and coconut oil, goat cheese and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Drink one glass of burgandy or merlot wine each day and savour it. (Think sitting in the square in Venice, enjoying an attractive glass of red) Note: don’t drink when you have a history of liver disease, alcoholism or breast cancer. Before you know it the proverbial old food snob will be looking great and feeling better. The body will many thanks with health and stamina. You will regain that vital spark of energy that is included with eating real balanced diet the way in which nature intended us to.
